Changes in the DELE A1 and A2 Exams
Are you aware that starting this year, the DELE exams for levels A1 and A2 are going to be upgraded?
As DELE examiners, we are going to take an updating course in a few days, but let us explain today what these changes mean for you, the candidates.
1. Why the changes?
These two levels were introduced earlier than other levels after the Instituto Cervantes adapted DELE to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). For this reason, and according to their DELE official webpage, they called for an upgrade to adapt them to the certification system developed with later exams and introduce administration and marking improvements. In addition, since DELE A2 is a requirement for non-Spanish speakers seeking Spanish citizenship, it needs to be adapted to these specific candidates, besides any other candidate who only wishes to certify their level.
2. When will the changes be effective?
For DELE A2, the changes took place in the Feb. 2020 exams. For DELE A1, they will start in April.
3. What are the specific changes?
Since probably you have been preparing for DELE A1 or A2 for a few months already, let me tell you that the changes will not affect the content of the exam: the grammar, the topics and the vocabulary remain the same. Instituto Cervantes specifies that the changes affect certain exercises, the duration of some tests and the marking scales for the written and oral expression and interaction tests.
4. How can I prepare for the new exams?
Instituto Cervantes has already uploaded sample exams in their DELE webpage. In addition, some publishers have already published or are planning to publish soon DELE preparation manuals for 2020 exams. You can find some of them in our partner bookstore, La Librería Spanish Bookstore Hong Kong.
